ABOUT ABOUT

** Registration for Sunday Sept. 24th is now closed. Please register for a future event or the online survey. ** A recent report from the International Documentary Association identifies the need to find out more about which stories by diverse filmmakers are being funded, programmed, and distributed and who has access to resources.

Re-Present Media is hosting a convening on Sunday September 24th from 11:30a-1:30p in downtown Oakland to explore these issues. We are looking for professional documentary filmmakers of color, who are working on personal story films (about individuals, families, and/or communities) from underrepresented communities. You should not have produced/directed more than two feature-length films and have not gained national, top-tier distribution at venues such as Sundance and prime time-PBS. Although appreciated, we are not seeking students.

We’d like to know what needs and issues you've encountered getting funding and distribution for your personal story films.

Please RSVP to attend in person or via video conferencing. If you can't attend, RSVP for a future convening or to complete the online survey.

Re-Present Media is a nonprofit organization, fiscally sponsored by Filmmakers Collaborative SF. Our purpose is to humanize underrepresented communities by promoting personal stories from those communities in documentary films and nonfiction media. Personal stories are those focused on the personal lives of individuals, families, and communities. Although social issues may intersect with their lives, these stories are not primarily issue-based narratives. We foster new dialogue in the industry to create new opportunities for personal stories.
